Ukraine and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia are interested in the expanse of export-import delivery of agricultural and food products to the markets of both countries. This was discussed during the meeting between Dr. Mykola Bilous, Deputy Director of Food Safety and Veterinary Medicine Department – Chief of Directorate for State Control of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection and Dr. Mesrak Mekonnen, State Minister of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia with the participation of Dr. Alemayehu Mekonnen Anbessie, Director of the Disease Prevention and Control Directorate of the said Ministry.
During the meeting, Members of the Ukrainian delegation briefed their Ethiopian colleagues with the structure, functions, and responsibilities of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, presented agricultural sector of Ukraine and outlined the overview of the epizootic situation in Ukraine. The parties also shared experience in the field of veterinary medicine and discussed issues of mutual access to markets in terms of import/export of live animals and animal origin products.
The said meeting was held in the framework of the visit of the delegation of State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection to Ethiopia in the period from March 20 to 23, 2018. Members of the Ukrainian delegation also met with officials of the National Centre for Animal Health Diagnostics and Research, the Ethiopian and Addis Ababa Chambers of Commerce and Sectoral Associations, as well as of the African Union Vaccination Centre.
